Manitoba Pulse and Soybean Growers recently launched a new website called rootrot.ca to help pulse farmers combat root rot diseases in pea and lentil fields. The website provides resources, tools, and research on Aphanomyces, Fusarium, Rhizoctonia, and Pythium root rot complexes, as well as information on agronomy, breeding, and pathology. Early detection of symptoms is crucial to prevent yield loss in pea and lentil crops. In a survey conducted in 2020, Fusarium root rot was found to be the most common disease affecting soybean, dry bean, and pea fields in Manitoba. It is important for growers to stay informed and take preventive measures to ensure profitable and sustainable crop production in Western Canada.
